L-Band Over Fiber Link Transmitter and Receiver
QuestTel's Satellite L-Band optical fiber Transmitter/Receiver kit offers high pefromance and cost effective alternative to conventional coaxial systems. The L-Band Transmitter and Receiver pair is used for transporting L-Band RF over fiber from the satellite antenna (dish) to the satellite receiver. Additionally transmitter provides optional 13/18V LNB power as well as Automatic Gain Control (AGC) to manage RF input level. By transporting the L-Band RF over fiber this range can be extended from several hundred feet to over 10 miles (Optional 20, 40, 80 and 120km declared before order). Since optical signal is not affected by electromagnetic field, the quality of your signal will always stay at the high level. Also this fiber solution is more cost effective than coaxial system, as well as more reliable and flexible.

Applications
Traditional coaxial cable was not designed to carry satellite L-Band signals far at all. At a distance exceeding a couple hundred feet, the signal starts degrading, and the picture goes with it. The QuestTel L-Band over fiber kit eliminates this problem by converting RF signal into light.
The transmitter is somewhere at the antenna, while the receiver sits at your satellite receiver, and a single strand of single-mode fiber will connect the TX/RX pair together. The standard kit has the capability to cover runs up to 10 miles, with longer reach versions to 120 km on request. The transmitter feeds your LNB directly with selectable 13V or 18V power. Pre-installed AGC maintains the RF frequency level. Because the signal travels as light, it picks up zero electrical noise whatsoever. Fiber is also much lighter, thinner, as well as cheaper to pull than RG-6.

Frequently Asked Questions
I am interested in the L-Band over fiber kit to extend from a DirecTV SWM 8 way splitter to a remote part of campus. The LNB power is already supplied. Can this device be connected to a spare port on this splitter and simply extended to a 1x4 SWM splitter? Can the L-band power be turned off?
My intention is to feed 3 TVs with DirecTV Genie boxes. The main location has a Genie HS17 server. Would I need more than 1 channel or is it okay to split the L-Band at the far end to feed the receivers? I know this isn't your primary use case, but any institutional knowledge you can share is appreciated.
I currently have a client that would like to move their DirecTV dish over to another building about 1000' away and feed the receivers at the Main House from that dish. I looked at your diagrams, and it looks to me like the L-1Ch-L-Band-TX/RX will do what we need. The one question I have is how many receivers can be fed from this system, or is it just dependent on the tuners available in the SWM LNB?
Do the power supplies for the TX and RX sides come with the kit, or do I need to order those separate?
Can we use your power adapter to feed 13V/18V power to the LNB? Or must we purchase an additional 13V/18V power supply for LNB power?
If we use an additional combiner to mix UHF (430-862 MHz) and L-band frequency, does it still apply to our system diagram?
As for the TX unit, does it have a rack mount (modular) model number?

Hello, we have the L-1Ch-L-Band-TX/RX units. When we plug the transmitter in we get an ALARM RF input too high. We have an ATSC antenna plugged into it. We also get that alarm if we don't have anything plugged into the RF. Is there anything I should try?
Is 10dB sufficient?
What temperature characteristics of use? Protection against moisture?
Satellite Feed Across a College Campus
A university needed to move its satellite dish to a rooftop roughly a kilometer from the room where the receivers and distribution equipment were placed. Traditional coax would have been impossible to use at such a distance.
The QuestTel L-1Ch-L-Band-RG-TX/RX kit was installed to solve the distance issue. The transmitter was placed at the dish, powering the LNB directly at 18V, while the receiver sat in the head-end room, linked by a single strand of the campus's existing single-mode fiber.
Outcome: The receivers locked onto every transponder exactly as if the dish were a mere couple of feet away.
Since there is no electrical connection between the two buildings, the link also stood its ground against several summer thunderstorms that had previously knocked out the old copper feed. The spare fiber pairs on the same cable are now reserved for future channels.
